"The best water in the Panhandle isn't at the resort. It's in the estuary, before sunrise, with nobody else on it."

Member Overnight Camping — A Club Privilege

Stage the night before a big fishing day. Wake up at the water. Members may camp on Club grounds — bring your own camper or pitch a tent, sleep under the longleaf pines, and launch at first light into Basin Bayou. Scheduled on first-come, first-served basis for all members.

Surrounded by Eglin Reservation

The Basin Bayou community sits on the southern edge of Eglin Air Force Base — the largest air force base in the free world, encompassing over 640,000 acres of Northwest Florida's best natural communities in the region — that offers permitted camping on the interior shorelines of Basin Bayou. The Eglin reservation creates a permanent buffer for the US Air Force testing missions — and a buffer against the overdevelopment that has consumed much of the Florida Panhandle coastline to the south.

The Water

Basin Bayou &
Choctawhatchee Bay

The Club fronts a private 35-foot canal cut in the 1940s that connects directly into Basin Bayou — a Class II Florida waterbody defined by clear water, abundant wildlife, and year-round accessibility for every paddle discipline.

No public crowds. No 30A traffic. Surrounded by Eglin AFB reservation, the estuary you paddle today is protected from development by design. Dolphin, redfish, trout, bass, osprey, and manatee. The forests meet the water here, and nothing interrupts that.

🦐A note about Nick's Seafood

Nick's Seafood is a Freeport institution — a working waterfront neighbor adjacent to the public boat ramp across Highway 20. Club members are expected to conduct themselves accordingly: keep noise in check, maintain clean lot lines, and respect Nick's operation and the working character of this stretch of highway. The kind of people this Club is built for already know how to behave around a working waterfront.
